Insert Appropriate Frogboy joke here

Jun 2, 2008 3:28 PM by Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
From my email this morning.

ANOTHER REASON TO BUY LOCAL!!

FRESH LETTUCE Look closely at the package. Just below the words Fresco Lavado...

Don't forget this brand of fresh lettuce. What probably happened is, the
water the lettuce was washed in contained polliwogs and these became fresh
new frogs, right in the packages. So if you're looking for salad fixins
with a little more body, then be sure and try this brand. Don't forget,
it's the extra care that Mexican companies take that makes the difference.

Neat little desktop toy. You can throw them around or attach to windows.

I have one walking the explorer plank in the screen. No install.

Just a simple example of using cloning to create a grid mode.
In normal view the objects are locked.
Click the upper right button to activate edit mode.
You can drag the objects or resize (bottom right corner of object).
When dragging is done the object snaps/aligns to top and right gridlines.
Has guides for moving and sizing.

MS Access Based Script Manager

Mar 10, 2008 12:37 AM by Discussion: DesktopX
Just found this MS Access based app called VBScriptMania.
Requires MS Access 2002 or newer, sadly I'm on '97.
Thought I'd share and it's suppose to allow you to store your scripts locally and comes with 2000 scripts.

...and undo minimize

Feb 28, 2008 7:33 PM by Discussion: DesktopX
This was asked a while ago (I think) and in my quest to learn the shell application object better I stumbled upon some doc's in my knowledgebase.

This script is based on the "Accessing Windows Shell with WSH-Scripts" article under the samples section at http://freenet-homepage.de/gborn/WSHBazaar/WSHBazaar.htm.

This script will toggle minimize/undo minimize the windows.
Dim blnMin
blnMin=False ' Default to False. Eg. Windows are usually showing before use

'Called when L-click on object or its children
Function Object_OnLButtonUpEx(obj, x, y, dragged)
If Not dragged Then
Call ToggleWindows
End If
End Function

Sub ToggleWindows
' Create Shell Application Object
Set oShell=CreateObject ("Shell.Application")
If blnMin=False Then
blnMin=True
oShell.MinimizeAll
'oShell.TileVertically
'oShell.TileHorizontally
'oShell.CascadeWindows
ElseIf blnMin=True Then
blnMin=False
oShell.UndoMinimizeAll
End If
End Sub
In my web travels came across a shareware app that looks like it is using Icon#73 as it's app icon.

Any volunteers

Got this idea from another post and this deviation http://glasskiwi.deviantart.com/art/Pimp-Your-Christmas-Tree-26539141.

I'm willing to script something. So, looking for your ideas, graphics, etc. I'm sure we can put something together quickly.

Some of my ideas:

Graphics (animated and/or non-animated):
 • ornaments
 • presents (both for under & on tree)
 • Trees, fake, real, "Charlie Brown"
 • lights
 • tinsle
 • garlands
 • popcorn strings
 • bows
 • candles
Some thoughts on functions:
 • obviously drap'n'drop decorating
 • countdown on hover tree?
 • controlling lights/candle speed
 • real vs fake - daily watering, if missed your tree could burst into flames! Just a thought
 • timer for turning your tree on automatically
Any and all ideas are welcome. Let's hammer out something and see what we can do?

So, I'm working on a fairly large widget/gadget and have been noticing some lag's in responsiveness when I apply/save the main script.
This morning I moved most of it into an external file and have noticed DX's refresh time to be significantly better with just the main callbacks internally. Not to mention it's easier to navigate the subprocedures/functions from Notepad++.

Wondered if anyone else had noticed this or if my mind's playing tricks?

If it matters my base objects consist of 47 objects then depending on my testing add up to another 150 or so cloned objects.

 • Rice goes in Salt not sugar to make it easier to break up
 • Rice & coffee/tea don't mix
 • Straining Sugar is not fun when you haven't had a coffee yet...or pretty much any other time!  :D
 • 20 pounds of sugar is not a deal for one person no matter what the price is.
 • Clipping your own hair after six cups of coffee just to save $12 is not a good idea :SNIFF!:
 • I have a cone head
 • Those bumps, dents & any head related injury you've suffered are still there
 • This December is one damn cold month
 • It's very hard to get a bandanna to fit a cone head
 • My beard & the hair on my neck grows about ten times faster than any other place on my body
 • I luv toques
